On a chilly gloomy November day
Carlisle Women’s first team travelled to play
Against a side from Cheshire’s Lymm
Chances of victory looking slim
The hosts fresh from a resounding Prescot triumph
Full of belief aiming to meet any defiance
The visitors giving debuts to Sioned and Connie
Hoping for the best. The prospects were not bonnie
But the Cumbrians are made from stern stuff
Knowing that the going was likely to be tough
Surprised their more illustrious foe
Faced up, took control, began to flow
Lymm relied mainly on strength and power
Trying to break Carlisle’s hardy flower
The game fluctuated from end to end
With neither side showing signs they would bend
The Cheshire team short corners they tried to force
Cynical with never a hint of remorse
Just before the interval the tactic bore fruit
From the set piece a goal scored .Lymm’s joyous salute!
At half time Carlisle had no reward for their good play
But greatly encouraged by their dynamic play
And a long Lymm interval team talk
Showed the visitors they had walked the walk
In the second half with Captain Alice pulling the strings
The Cumbrians were confident they could clip the hosts’ wings
But an errant pass left a Lymm forward free
Who then slotted home a second goal with glee
Carlisle’s effort was not diminished but flow disrupted
A further goal conceded before calm reconstructed
The Cumbrians were tiring, a result of their toil
Pushed forward, resolve intact, a good day not to spoil
But no matter how hard Carlisle fought
No joy! Their endeavours came to nought
Insult to injury was compounded
A fourth goal conceded .Death knell sounded
But shards of light on a dull dull day
The score did not reflect such good play
Carlisle move onward with a spring in their gait
Eager to shine bright on their next fixture date
Congratulations to our player of the match Alice Murray.
